November is Florida Parental Involvement Month

2009ParentMonthLogo_webThe Florida Department of Education has designated November as Florida Parental Involvement Month to celebrate the role parents play in their child’s education.

It’s proven that when schools work together with families to support learning, children are inclined to succeed not just in school, but throughout life. Research shows that there is a direct connection between parental involvement and high student achievement, regardless of family income or background. Students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates, as well as better school attendance, increased motivation and self-esteem, lower rates of suspension, and fewer instances of violent behavior.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools recognizes that a child’s education is a responsibility shared by both schools and families, as evidenced by the Board’s policy on parent involvement and its long history of collaboration with parents. Additionally, the partnership with Florida PTA and the Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs provides parents with a forum to advocate as one voice and collectively influence the decisions that affect their children.

As Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Dante B. Fascell Elementary School observe Florida Parental Involvement Month, we hope all parents get involved, stay informed, and continue to make their children’s education a top priority.

November 2nd: Curriculum Expo

On Saturday, November 2nd, DBFE attended the Curriculum Expo for the John A. Ferguson Senior High feeder pattern. Hundreds of students and their parents came by to learn about the many programs offered by neighborhood M-DCPS schools.

A special thanks to the teachers and PTA members who joined us in representing our school! 🙂

Reminder: Last Week for Fundraising

fundraisPlease be advised that this is our last week of the fundraiser.  All fundraiser packets are due Friday, October 11th.

Each and every order helps purchase supplies, materials, incentives, activities, and more for the students, teachers, and parents of Dante B. Fascell Elementary School.  Be sure your child returns his/her coupon when they purchase item(s), in order to receive a charm necklace.  Students also have a chance to participate in a fun, outdoor activity if they sell at least 5 items.

Thank you for your support! 😀

Join the PTA Today!

CALLING ALL PARENTS!

PTAJoining PTA supports your child and his or her school.  The $6 fee includes membership in the local, state, and national PTA.

DBFE asks every parent to join PTA — This does not obligate you in any way to give time to our school; however, your time is always needed and appreciated.  Anyone is able to become a member so we welcome aunts, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors to join, as well.

Again, the membership is just $6 and it helps us begin to provide a number of things for our students and teachers throughout the school year.  Membership is important in building a strong PTA.

If you have not become a member, please do so by October 3All classes who reach 100% will win a special activity.

For more information on joining the PTA, please see Ms. Gamundi, speak with your child’s teacher, or visit the main office.

DBFE Family Fun Night

Last Friday, September 20th, students and their families had the chance to watch a belly dancing show (as well as learn a few moves of their own), play hieroglyphics bingo, and color Egyptian-themed art during our Family Fun Night. Best of all, Mr. Breeding and Mr. Mancebo volunteered themselves to be mummified by a number of students. Our Scholastic book fair was also open throughout the night and was an enormous success! Check out our photo recap below. 😀

A special thanks to our dedicated PTA for all their efforts in coordinating the event! Also, many thanks to the teachers and staff members that volunteered their time to help. Without their assistance, Family Fun Night could not have been possible!
