Parents & Community Members: WE NEED YOU!

Parents, DBFE is in search of interested individuals to join our schools Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC). By joining, you have an opportunity to take an active role in the decision-making process at Dante B. Fascell Elementary School. The time required to be a part of the EESAC committee is very minimal.  We are looking for parents and community members to participate and make a difference in our school.

EESAC elections will take place Tuesday, September 16 at 5:30 pm, during the Annual Title I Meeting before Open House. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming an EESAC member, please call (305) 380-1901.

Donate for a Cause: Pink Lids and Tabs

Assist DBFE students and teachers in collecting tabs and Yoplait Pink Lids for two great causes! Students are asked to bring in (cleaned) pink lids from Yoplait yogurt, and turn them into their classroom teachers. Lids will be turned in by Mrs. Alvarez during Winter Recess. Please have them in by Thursday, December 19th.

Should you have any tabs from drink cans, pet cans, or any other can that has a tab, please turn these in as well. Mrs. Alvarez will be dropping off DBFE’s first batch during the Winter Recess. Continue to collect the tabs throughout the year. The second drop off will be in April.

Many thanks to all who participate and special thanks Mrs. Alvarez for her efforts in orchestrating these collections!

TAB-A-THON Contest:

“Participate in the Tab-a-thon and help the Ronald McDonald Houses of South Florida.

Collecting aluminum tabs is a fun and easy way to recycle and more importantly make a difference in the lives of children and families. Since the start of the Tab-A-Thon program in 2005, almost $30,000 has been raised on this program and continue to raise funds for our Houses. This is over 40 million pop-tabs that have been collected and recycled! Our goal is to continue to collect the pop-tabs in 2014 to benefit the environment and continue to raise funds to our Houses.”

Yoplait Pink Lids:

“With every lid redeemed, you’re helping women and families in your community. Donations triggered through Save Lids to Save Lives will benefit Susan G. Komen® and its network of more than 120 local Affiliates. General Mills’ partnership with Susan G. Komen® has supported millions of women fighting the disease in communities across the country by helping to fund education, treatment and research initiatives.”

There are many homeless children in the shelters of our community that are in need of gifts this holiday season. Help us make a difference in the life of a child by bringing in a new unwrapped toy, as follows:

  • Pre-K, Kg, 1st grades – For a child between the ages of 3 – 6
  • 2nd & 3rd grades – For a child between the ages of 7 – 9
  • 4th & 5th grades – For a child between the ages of 10 – 12
  • Teachers / Staff – For a child between the ages of 13 – 16

We are also accepting donations of NEW clothing or shoes for adults or children as well as shampoo, diapers, wipes, toothbrushes, and deodorant.

As we teach our students about wants and needs, we hope you will consider making a donation to help those less fortunate.

Bring in your items by Friday, December 13, 2013

We will be delivering these items before the holidays to the Chapman Partnership for Homeless. For over 10 years, with the help from public and private organizations, thousands of toys, clothes, and other necessities have been donated to this shelter. They depend on donations from the community.

DBFE’s ‘Reading Oasis’ Book Fair

The first Scholastic book fair of the school year was a great success! Here are a few photos of the media center, after its transformation into a Reading Oasis.

Many thanks to Ms. Avetrani, Ms. Calenzani, and all the other staff members and parent volunteers who helped throughout the week of the book fair. Without them, this event would not have been possible! 😀
