It’s National School Lunch Week! DBFE is celebrating this nation-wide cause, in an effort to promote the success of our students in school by eating healthy meals and encouraging physical activity.
The U.S. is fortunate to have a
federally funded National School Lunch Program that serves more than 29.6 million students daily. For some, this lunch is the most nutritious meal of the day.
- M-DCPS Department of Food and Nutrition served more than 189,000 lunches to students each day.
- The Department of Food and Nutrition served locally-grown produce from Homestead and the state of Florida to all Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Items include: corn, green beans, tomatoes, collard greens, and star fruits.
- The Department of Food and Nutrition works with local celebrity chefs partnering to create new and exciting menu items.
- Research has shown a link between school lunches and improved scores in standardized tests.
